NEW GUY ORIENTATION

Welcome!  You are the most important guy in our group, and we are glad you are here.

SEALs In Recovery is a group of SEALs that have found a way to stay sober and we want to share it with you.

We conduct two meetings per week that can be attended in person, via Zoom or phone in. Also, our secure text thread keeps you in constant contact with the group and individuals.

SEALs in Recovery meetings follow the Alcoholics Anonymous model; since AA has been, for 90 years, the most successful program in the world to get and stay sober.

Some guys in our group have been sober for decades, and some are still counting the hours.  We are all in this together; as we are here to share our experience, strength and hope. We believe “It works if you work it”.

You are to be commended for taking this first step.

You showed up to BUD/s to be a SEAL.  Now you showed up to SIR to stay sober.

BUD/S took work and dedication. So does living sober.

Only 15% of the guys who start BUD/S graduate and become SEALs.

Only 15% of the alcoholics in the world will get sober and live productive lives.

Completing BUD/S had many benefits.

Staying sober has many more benefits.

Not graduating BUD/S was devastating for most guys.

Not staying sober will be devastating for everyone who still suffers with alcoholism.

BUD/S has proctors. SEALs In Recovery has sponsors.

SEALs do P.T.  Sober people work the AA steps.

SEALs continue to train.

Sober people continue to work on the AA program.

Being a SEAL was the most important thing in our life then.

Staying sober is the most important thing in our life now.

Here are some suggestions to get started:

1. Don’t pick up a drink—no matter what happens.

2. Get a temporary sponsor—ask one of our guys for a recommendation.

3. Show up for SIR and other AA meetings near your home.

4. Read the AA literature (SIR will provide the books).

5. Avoid people, places, things that trigger drinking.

6. Identify your Higher Power (God) and communicate.

7. Be good to yourself. You’re worth it.

8. Easy does it. Keep things simple.

9. Be honest with yourself and others.

10. Exercise and commune with nature.

11. Connect with the VA for prescriptions, mental health evaluation and other resources.

12. Do the next right thing.

Just like in the Teams, sobriety is a commitment that requires training, discipline, front sight focus

and consistency.

It is a wonderful journey where you will experience a new freedom and a new happiness.  It will all make sense to you sooner than later.  WE ARE HERE FOR YOU!

Keep coming back.
