SIR affords me the opportunity to connect with like-minded, even kindred spirits, that are pursuing a higher purpose. Comprised of ex SEALs, the group has an inherent chemistry, degree of trust and front sight focus on recovery. With varying lengths of sobriety, there exists the opportunity to learn from the elders and be of service to the newcomers; all while sharing our collective experience strength and hope.

And yes, as with SEALs, there will be some profanity and side-splitting humor. After all, it pays to be a quitter.

Imagine life with no feeling, no eyes to see, no touch to feel, void of sound or taste, lost in a place with no direction or change. No reason or cause, absent of light yet full of shame, blame and guilt. The world so familiar to most of us whom have been chronic members of the club that insists we drink to feel a part of the world. It is said that the opposite of addiction is connection, as any person that offers service can state, we sought to be a part of something greater. No matter my efforts, conditioning or success, I have never been able to ‘fit in’. Though offered every opportunity and able to achieve life just never felt whole or worthwhile. The more feeling of ‘more’ hung and choked my mind, a boy whistlinga tune in the dark to pretend he was safe. Add to that life that was supercharged and measured in other’s measure of goal attainment, ‘no matter the cost’ and there I was, liar, theif, manipulator of the highest kind, most able and most corrupt to do for me what I wanted. I was done, wife done, family fragmented, drive done, ambition never realized. An oasis, a brotherhood that allow and accepts me regardless.

SEALS IN RECOVERY is an oasis from all the guilt and shame, a home to grow and express that broken with those that share life in a way few other humans can understand. Men that share their pains and misdeeds with such courage and conviction, so raw and true that only here can you find what medicine is needed for my dark mind. Strength in We, honesty that revels inner truth, strength to heal and be healed. My name is Richard and I am a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous, never would be saved without this program or my Brothers in SIR. LLTB

I came in from the normal pipeline, AA. I was angry at the world, trusted no one. Ending my life was one option. Hurting the ones that love is a by product of this mental health issue. One of the symptoms is drug and alcohol abuse. Why have one when two is twice as good, x4, x8, x16.....Listening and understanding that many people have similar issues was one profound moment I had early on. SIR evaluated that thought process. Some men in this group I knew before, others were younger cats. They all have the Teamguy spirit. This group, in particular, has given me a sense of accountability . When we relate to one another, judgement has been removed. To watch Teamguys come in and change right in front of you is a gift. Empathy takes the place of apathy. We are worth it. All of us are worth it
